Åre Extreme River Class is the classic course from 1997. The Åre Extreme River Class consists of the disciplines kayaking/surfski, running and MTB cycling. The paddling takes place on Indalsälven (White water class 2) and on lake Åre (Flat water).
In order to participate, you must have previous experience of paddling a regular kayak (not a white water kayak), surfski or sea kayak and be able to certify river paddling skills.
If you are wondering more about what is expected of you (in the rapids) who want to participate in the RIVER CLASS, you can read more about this here.
Note: Kayaks/Surfskins must have tow handles both infront and in the back. This makes it easier for possible rescue in the rapids.
The RIVER class has two mandatory portage where all participants must carry the kayak past two different rapids that are not possible to paddle. The portages will be clearly marked with flags or similar.
The course consists of 21,6 km paddling (RIVER class 2 and flat water), 14,8 km running and 31,7 km MTB cycling non stop.
Everyone participate at their own risk.
